Life ”get’s in the way”

I had a lofty goal of releasing the podcast on my birthday last year, i.e. the 19th of December. But life got in the way as it most often do. And as you might have noticed the podcast is still not launched.

I’ve been debating with myself as to how much I would share about my own journey and life here on Like The French. Should I keep it strictly to the interviews and articles about the french lifestyle, food etc. Or should I also include posts about what’s going on in my life, for example what we’re doing to get closer to being able to move to France but maybe also really personal stuff like why I wasn’t able to launch the podcast when I had planned.

As I’m a very open person I figured it would be easier for me if I keep it that way here online as well…

So, this autumn has been quite tough for me. I’m not sure what it’s called in English, but in Sweden we call it ”burnt out”. Meaning that someone has been under a lot of stress – too much stress – under a long period of time. Finally it catches up with the body who then shuts down in some way, shape or form. It’s different for different people.

And you guessed it. That’s what happened to me in December.

It started in September with a new job, new project, a lot of work to be done with a tight deadline and no time to recuperate. And from there it just spiraled downwards until my body said it couldn’t take any more.

I’ve been burnet out once before, about 2 years ago, so I knew the signs and I caught it early this time. But not early enough and I’ve been struggling with no energy, no interest to do much at all, not being able to focus for any long stretches of time and so on. And that’s besides the physical problems I got from this.

Which explains why I wasn’t able to do anything at all for Like The French, and I’m still not sure when I’ll be back to ”full energy mode” again. I feel a whole lot better, which is why I manage to write this blog post. But I don’t want to put pressure on myself and come up with a new deadline. But I’m really hoping it won’t be too long!

Hope to talk to you again soon!
Bisous,
Eva

PS If you’re wondering what the photo has to do with this post, nothing other than I liked the relaxed ambiance it gives. And I could use some of that at the moment. It’s taken from one of our summer holidays in Sanary-Sur-Mer, France.

Into the french way of life? You’re in the right place

Bienvenue and welcomeOk, I’m going to be honest with you…. The reason I’m starting this blog and podcast is quite selfish. Really.

I’ve been searching the podcast directory for months not finding a podcast that talks about what it’s like moving to and living in France. I found a ton of podcasts about learning french (and I subscribed to most of them) but that was about it.

So I thought to myself – there must be others out there with the same interest as me, right?…

5 things I learned from a french chef on shopping at french food markets

Tomatos at a french market

This summer I took a half day cooking class in Paris. It was a great experience and you can read more about it here, here and here. Part of the cooking class was to join the chef for a tour to one of the many food markets in Paris to select the food we were going to cook. Such a great way to start a cooking class! Here are some of the tips I took away during that trip….

When we had bought everything we needed, and everyone was carrying a market bag full of goods we went to the cooking school. As we got closer …

The food market tour at Marché Bastille (Part 2)

So, we had made the though decision on what to cook. Now the next step was doing some shopping at one of Paris many food markets, Marché Bastille.

When we entered the market, one of the first stalls was the fish stall and the smell of fresh fish was hanging in the air. I guess that’s why you always find the fish stalls at the beginning or end of the market, so that the smell won’t overtake thewhole market. This particular fish stall …

Cooking class in Paris (Part 1)

I had finally found the perfect birthday gift to Fredrik – I had booked us for the market & cooking class at La Cuisine Paris during our visit to Paris in August!

It was a superb day with a market tour + whipping up a main course plus two desserts + enjoying the delicious food with a glass of wine. Not a bad way to spend a day in Paris!…
